[ The mission: to infiltrate this Couple's Festival and foil the plot to assassinate the attending dignitaries, whilst keeping up a facade of being simple attendees.
The agents: some random shinobi from various villages who were too slow or gullible to realise what an awkward job this is and make themselves scarce in time. Namely, Sora Himoto and Kiba Inuzuka. And the dog. The dog is important.
The place: the Couple's Festival. Weren't you paying attention. It's romantic and dimly lit and Sora doesn't care because in this carnival game you can WIN FREE FOOD.
Sora you were meant to be rendezvousing with your mission partner. ]
[ Kiba arrives with a near threatening spring in his step, Akamaru bounding behind him; and both males with just as much hunger in their eyes as the other, and not a shred more animalistic quality between them despite the fact the one of their number was, in fact, an animal.
He stands with his hands on his hips, a defiant look cast across the courtyard, apparently totally non-plussed about... exactly who his companion was..........
Oh well, he's sure they'll locate him eventually, right? ]
[ He hears the voice despite being a fair distance away, and whether its a product of the sheer volume she's using or his better-than-average hearing is hard to tell, but it's almost too easy for him to pick up on the sadness in her voice.
He scores over to her (Akamaru following blindly though he's a little confused at Kiba's motive) and loops an arm around her waist and gives the surrounding officials a tight grin. ]
[ She startles briefly at the arm, but her delight at seeing him is so genuine that they're waved towards the stall immediately as hopeless teenagers. It doesn't even enter her mind that this guy might not be her allocated teammate, after all, and if he wasn't, he has a nice smile and is willing to lie to get her stall food, so he's an ally for sure--
Sora's motivations are simple. ]
No problem! [ Out of the corner of her mouth, she mutters, ] I'm Sora.
[ Kiba had been kind of intending on using Akamaru as his partner and... somehow changing one of them into a woman with Naruto's surprisingly useful dabbling in that area, but-- having an actual partner is probably a way better idea. Akamaru seems to think so too, and glad for the slim escape from being turned into a woman, he follows at Kiba's side with after a curious sniff of their new companion. ]
Oh- [ He laughs, like he only just got a joke that wasn't there. ] Kiba.
Relieved by finding - or rather, being found by - him, she unwraps his arm from her waist and interlaces their fingers together instead. And then glances back when something wet touches her side. Hold up. The sight of a huge, shaggy-furred animal drains all thoughts of ikayaki and water pistols from her immediate plans. ]
Ki-Kiba, there's a dog...

[ Woah, that's new. Kiba isn't exactly used to girls holding his hand -- mostly because no-one ever does it, not even the more physical members of his family (they much prefer blowing raspberries on his face like he's still eight years old) -- so when she laces her fingers with his, his eyebrows raise and he glances down at their hands for a second. That's his only reaction, however, both because he doesn't actually mind, and because he's distracted by the mention of one of his favourite words. ]
Dog? Huh, where?-- [ He speaks before he looks around, and when he sees her eyes on Akamaru, he lets out a little chuckle. ] Oh- yeah. That's Akamaru. He's with me.
[ Akamaru gives her a little tilt of his head, then a loud and very welcoming bark of greeting. ]
[ She looks between them for a moment. Leaf-nin have pets? Scratch that, Leaf-nin have huge, powerfully muscled dog companions? Just give her a fight later and this will have been the best evening ever. Then Akamaru barks, and her focus shifts almost laserlike to him. She somehow manages to keep holding Kiba's hand as she drops into a crouch to meet their third partner. Experience, really, given that she's been holding hands with people since she was old enough to grip someone else's fingers. ]
Nice to meet you, Akamaru. Let's all do our best together!
[ She hesitates for maybe a second before reaching out with her free hand to scruff Akamaru's neck and head, unused to such large animals, but once contact is made and her fingers sink into thick white fur, her eyes light up. ]
Heh, yeah. I usually try to give him a bath every couple days, and I groom him regularly in-between. [ The words are said with the slightest inflection of pride-- in fact, it's a pretty big inflection. The Inuzuka are a proud clan to begin with, but even more so when it comes to their dogs and Kiba is endlessly proud of Akamaru; both as a ninken himself and Kiba's lovingly structured care routine for him.
Akamaru on the other hand is just enjoying the attention. He presses his head into her hand and twists his face up to give her palm a lick, as if petting her in return. ]
[ Sora is a connoisseur of soft things, and Akamaru is right up there with Koharu's hair in the ranking known as 'I never want to stop touching this'. Still, she pets him just a little longer before standing and tugging Kiba towards the first game stall. ]
You must have grown up and trained together, right? He has the same kind of strength you do.
[ Kiba lets himself be dragged, but at Sora's words his eyes widen a little and a look of surprised bashfulness comes across his features. ]
Oh, uh, yeah... [ He mumbles his words. His attachment to Akamaru is so normal in his village, that he never really hears comments like that due to their obviousness... but it's surprisingly nice to hear. ] Yeah, we met when I was really young. We've been friends ever since. He never leaves my side.

They're still within sensing range of their ward, so it's okay to have some fun, right? Now obviously part of a couple, she's handed two water pistols with a knowing smile from the attendant.
Take this pistol, Kiba. ]

[ Kiba looks down at the gun with a studious tilt of his head not unlike a dog tasting a new kind of kibble for the first time, then grunts. He's sort of done this before, he supposes; granted, his version of a water pistol was the full bladder of his canine companion... but it was the same basic principle, right? He and Akamaru's training with dynamic marking had involved lots of accidents till they'd got it right, but thanks to the relentless training, they now both have exceptional aim.
He... doesn't think he'll tell Sora about it, though. People never seem to appreciate hearing about that kind of training, somehow. ]
