CHARACTER INFORMATION
Name: Sora Himoto (AU)
Age: 16
Subject taught: N/A but let's face it, she'll probably start some kind of harem accidentally.
Canon: Shitsurakuen
AU: In a large, bustling city, saturated with crime, unrest and inequality, there are two professions that ostensibly shine their lights into the darkness. One is the idols, young, vital people of all genders who take to the stage and screen to brighten the lives of their people or showcase their talent to the world. The other is the heroes. Identities unknown, masked and named for colours and metals and concepts only, they take to the streets, confronting crime and evil wherever it might be found, and dragging sordid practices to light.
Sora is both idol and hero, though she never meant to end up as either. What she REALLY wanted to be was a Knight of Justice straight out of the fairytales. And when her teachers told her this wasn't an acceptable thing to put on her future choices form, she picked 'children's television presenter' as a back-up. You know, just in case it took her a few years to break into the Knight scene. And then she kept training in secret, using all of her allowance to pay for her gym membership. It was, then, a little surprising when she was scouted as an idol by a small company. Run by an unknown businessman and administrated by Sora's childhood friend, they accepted Sora readily as a strong personality and - apparently - an excellent dancer and presenter. Her singing remained terrible, but they had good PR and sold it as charming rather than migraine-inducing. Her schoolwork never recovered, though. A week or so into her unexpected idol career, her friend took her to one side and revealed the secret: the idols and the heroes were the same group. With such a public face, they were apparently the perfect cover for the unknown gangs of vigilantes. This was alarmingly close to Sora's knightly dreams, and when she was offered a heroic identity to go with her growing stack of costumes in her room, she agreed happily. She became Crimson.
Unknown to the average members of the heroes, both systems were hopelessly corrupted, kept afloat only by the largest crime factions' need for some kind of crowd control over the real troublemakers. To keep everyone happy, thinking that their city was safe and pure. Sora didn't get this memo, and her crusade for justice and light was entirely sincere, not just stepping on the wrong toes but stamping them cheerfully into the ground and then handing over a pair of more sensible shoes. With more durable toes. Although she was meant to work alone, she quickly began to gather other heroes to her with her personality and readiness to accept them as they came. Koharu was the first, a shy girl who worked at a hostess club when she wasn't heroing. Cowed by the aggressive, dominating clientele she tended to draw, when Sora offered her protection she took it gladly, even moving in with Sora to escape the undesirable area she had previously lived in. Yuki was the second. Brought up in a traditional household, she had been almost destroyed by a series of vicious stalkers who had followed her idol persona; her empathic powers had all but atrophied under the stress and strain. After an actual assault, she was hospitalised and upon her release became Sora's mission control from then on out, entirely loyal to Sora but never giving up an edge of control. Tomoko, a cowardly but vital younger idol joined next, requiring coaching to use her powers correctly after they accidentally lashed out and hurt both herself and Sora in a skirmish with armed robbers. Reiko, an older, veteran hero and famous idol who had ascended into the higher echelons of the system in order to change it, eventually joined forces with the growing group after Sora won her over, defecting and combining both her knowledge and experience with the group's larger force. Also Hiyo, which was about three episodes of drama and screaming.
Eventually they ended up competing on the hero and idol stages against M@5K, an all-boy idol group working for the same company. Many battles were had, and much angst was cured, and then they WERE ALL FRIENDS THE END
The series ends with an entire episode dedicated to a concert in which all the characters sing energetic duets about what they've learned.
Personality:
Sora is an entirely uncomplicated person, and will most likely remain the same person across every possible universe. Some would say she's too stupid to allow a situation to change her, others would say her soul is too pure. Whatever the reason behind it, Sora is an archetype all to herself.
Sora latched onto the tales of Knightly valour and epic quests when she was still very young, and devoted her life to emulating the 'true knight' of the stories. As such she is chivalrous and devoted above and beyond what would be usual or even rational. Essentially a paladin in both ability and mentality, her strengths are her courage and willpower; she falls short on cunning, suspicion or any ability to gauge someone's character whatsoever. Whilst her mental fortitude is extreme in terms of what she can cope with, she has no resistance to manipulation whatsoever. Essentially, she minmaxed and her dump stat was intelligence. She will help anybody in need of it, and anyone who offers to help her will be met with enthusiasm and gratitude, even if they're obviously leading her into a trap. However, her tendency to show faith towards anyone has also netted her some strong friendships and alliances, so she sees no reason to stop now.
When pushed, her determination and conviction reaches ungodly heights; she's endured extended, painful attacks in order to save the original victim, she's impaled herself on weapons in order to strike at someone behind her with no reaction other than a smile, she's been beaten up when she charged into a gang of boys to defend a girl and seen it as worthwhile... essentially, pain, humiliation and the like are on a lower rung of her personal priority ladder than, say, keeping a promise or protecting someone, and the latter is worth infinitely more to her. A failure to protect someone is enough to induce a heroic BSOD, even imagining that a person close to her is suffering without any means of rescue is enough to cause her extreme distress. This is a girl who will walk out on stage and reveal her identity to the world, knowing what a target it makes her, because it would give her friends even a moment of peace.
She has promised to protect her friends from everything and anything that might threaten them, and it is entirely certain that she will do the same for anyone else who crosses her path in the future. Sora spreads her light indiscriminately; she honestly wants to help everyone in the world - or worlds, now. What do other people think? Maybe even the demons are in pain, right? And then all it takes to help them is to bring them onto her path. It isn't a very deep attitude, but she throws everything into it and generally she wears people down with smiles and kindness until they join her.
And in her world, she became an idol and a hero at once, a highly public figure that attracted no end of animosity and attention. Similar to the world of her original, really, since her improved performance abilities are mostly beaten into her by her friends and most of her popularity stems from her natural charisma rather than any actual talent on the stage.
Weirdly enough, in day-to-day living, Sora is fairly spacey. She's not particularly apt at school - despite Koharu's attempts at tutoring and Yuki's threats should she not complete the reading - and she'll try to get out of any extra reading or bookwork if at all possible. Her career as an idol really hasn't helped this, since she had to be tutored rather than attend school for the past year. Her grades are absolutely terrible. She's cheerful and affectionate to her friends - even if her relationships border on romantic in the true Victorian romantic friendship style and beyond - and friendly with everyone she meets. (which stems from her 'problems' always trusting people) She tries to play the mediator in arguments or squabbles, but is generally ineffectual until provoked or the argument seems to be serious.
In the AU, Sora developed minor hero abilities that were mostly triggered or activated via dance movements. Whilst most heroes had powerful abilities, Sora's were somewhat late in developing and weak besides, so she only ever fully developed the ability to generate basic light constructs - flashbombs, short-lived lightswords, that sort of thing. Although others, including her best friend/girlfriend, derided her for this fairly useless ability, it delighted Sora: it was non-lethal and obvious, making fights fair and less likely to end in someone getting hurt. A perfect weapon for a Knight of Justice. Speaking of which...
